WEEK 1
9/1, 4
We will be performing our first lab this week. We will retrieve the necessary glassware and suplies from the stockroom, assign lockers, and do the first part of a four week experiment (week two will share a common procedure, but the latter weeks will be done as part of the lab rotation as distributed in class). Be prepared for lab. Know what to do and you will be more efficient in using the alloted lab time. Hopefully, the water and power issues in the lab will be addressed by facilities in a timely fashion.

The second week of our black pepper project should be completed by everyone. You need to isolate your piperine and save fractions that contain other flavor and aroma components found in black pepper. Try some prep scale TLC or other method not employed in week one.

Continue to develop your methods by consulting your peers to gain insights into what works and what does not: then extend with your own best thinking.
